This month has been a beautiful time for me. A time of mums, pumpkins, hot spark, healthy baked goods, hoodies, and snuggling. I love fall because it’s a time when we can reflect on the changing of seasons and bust out our cute fall boots, host bible studies, and generally love all things cozy. I pray it’s been that kind of month for you… But I am no naive fool. I also know the realities of this world.
I know it’s very likely that this month has been a scary time for you or clouded in it’s own particular brand of darkness. After all, this is the month when our country celebrates death and every kind of evil. We willing dress our children and houses up as death and destruction as if it’s normal. So it’s no wonder that you may be experiencing a little bit of fear. My thoughts on Halloween have always been that the world is sick with enough evil we don’t need to add any more to it. Don’t people deal with enough fear already without inviting more of it in?
I find it interesting that at times I’m labeled “extreme” because I pay $20-$25 for a high quality whole organic chicken to feed my family but paying who knows how much for graveyards and skeletons all over your house and yard is normal? At the end of the day it comes down to priorities.
So if you are struggling or know someone who is struggling with fear I want you to hold on to the fact perfect love casts out all fear. Love is the opposite of fear and they can NOT exist at the same time. Here’s what I know to be true:
“Do not be conformed to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” Romans 12-2
And
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.” Romans 12:9
That makes things real simple. The Bible always does. Over the next few weeks and forever for that matter, I want you to cling to what is good. Cling to love. Show love and be the light of the world. Smile at the darkness. Throw open the door to the sunlight. Walk in the sunlight. Refuse to be moved by the enemy and refuse to be offended. Refuse to tolerate death and destruction. Show love at every chance. When you are shown evil combat it with love. Starting in your own home first, here’s how:
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love does not envy.
Love does not boast.
Love is not proud.
Love does not dishonor others.
Love is not self-seeking.
Love is not easily angered.
Love keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
Operating in these characteristics of love literally slams the door to fear. Pure love really does cover everything and is the most excellent way. It is the greatest god given force in the universe and is yours to wield. It’s THE BIGGEST way he empowers us to fight our battles. We have to make sure we are constantly protecting our hearts and renewing them. You were not meant to live one minute of your life in fear, doubt, and anxiety. Remember that next week and every week. Be unafraid and filled with love. Be made perfect in love.
