So apparently I’ve been living under a rock for the past year and am one of the last people to know what YOLO means. If you’re like me and clueless as to what the YOLO phenomenon is, allow me to explain. YOLO is an acronym that means “you only live once”. It’s a popular hashtag on social media used to describe exciting events. However, what you’ll see it used the most for is an excuse for irresponsible behavior, folly, and all kinds of ridiculousness. Basically, do whatever you want and then excuse it by the fact that you only live once and THAT makes it OK. I see so many people actually shortening their lifespan with this motto. Eat whatever you want, say whatever you want, drink whatever you want, take whatever drugs you want, sleep with whoever you want, do whatever it takes to feel good no matter what, because after all you only live once right? WRONG.
Instead of focusing on how we can live to fill ourselves up with every earthly thing let’s focus on fully living with intention and intense passion for transformation. Let’s focus on being truly ALIVE and properly stewarding the GIFT that is our life instead of excusing folly and debauchery with a cute cultural catch phrase.
“I have the right to do anything”- you say. But not everything is beneficial “I have the right to do anything”-but I will not be mastered by anything. 1 Corinthians 6:12
My friend, you do only live once. Live it with intention not recklessness. Take diligent care of your body. Take diligent care of your mind. Take diligent care of your relationships. Life is fleeting and the days are evil. None of us our guaranteed another day on this earth and honestly, it’s not about you. We each have a calling. We each have a destiny and people to help. We do get one shot. One shot to give God the most glory possible until we get to heaven. You only live once so make it count by bringing light to a dark place.
Your life is not meant to be lived going through the motions and it’s not meant to be lived with reckless abandon either. It’s meant to be lived powerful and with LOVE. Live fully alive so people have hope. You only live once so show gratitude. Show love. Tell the people in your life how grateful you are for them. Go the extra mile. Get out of your comfort zone. Never stop reading, growing, pursuing, and loving. Take care of yourself so you can fully live this amazing life!!! Eat right because you only live once and you want to make the most of your time here on earth. Train hard and consistently because you only live once and you want to be the grandma that can play on the floor with her grand-kids. Be intentional. Your life is precious.
Choose wisely. YOLO, right?
