Click here for a printable version you can stick on your wall! The Fab 5 Rules
Before you start training you need to know how to start training correctly. In my experience of training and coaching women, I started to notice a negative pattern of behavior that drastically affected the quality of their workouts and all around attitude. Before we begin our training together, you will want to read these and commit them to memory. Set yourself up for success!
Think of these as your rules for a successful workout. In fact, make them a part of your life and watch what happens!! I’m a firm believer that you are what you put in front of you every day, so write these down and put them where you can see them! I promise these Rules are worth it!
THE FABULOUS FIVE. FIVE RULES THAT WILL
CHANGE
YOUR TRAINING AND YOUR LIFE!
1. No Excuses
What you tolerate you give permission to exist. Make a decision today to stop tolerating excuses in your life. Many times we fool ourselves into believing our own excuses by rationalizing them. They sound like good reasons, but make no mistake, an excuse is just a well planned lie. The quicker you stop making excuses and accept responsibility, the faster you reach your goals.
See if any of these sound familiar :
“I don’t have enough time”
“My husband won’t support me”
“But my kids don’t like eating healthy”
“I’m just not a fitness person”
“But it’s so hard to change”
“I don’t have enough energy”
“But my job is just so demanding”
“But my kids are just so demanding”
“I wasn’t raised in a health conscious home”
“I am just too old”
“But all my friends asked me to go have lunch and I couldn’t tell them no”
Do you see how the responsibility shifted off of you and onto something else like job, kids, age, genetics, etc? You and only YOU are responsible for what you do and how you spend your time.
2. No Whining or Complaining
Your attitude affects the way you do things. If you don’t like a particular activity because you know it’s going to be painful, don’t waste your precious energy rolling your eyes, sighing, whining, or grumbling about it. Whining and complaining about things won’t change it. Winners REFUSE to whine.
Commit this verse to memory
Philippians 2:14-15
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”
In other words, adopt the Nike slogan and JUST DO IT. Oh, and do it with a smile (it actually burns more calories)
3. NO NEGATIVE SELF TALK
This may be the most important of the fab 5. I’m sure you’ve heard at some point that your words create your world. This is not some clever saying, it is 100% true, and could single handily be the one thing holding you back from the body and life you desire. If you are constantly beating yourself up verbally your body will react accordingly. A truly fit life bans negative self talk! So anything like this has got to go!
“I am so fat”
“No matter what I do I can’t lose weight”
” I am disgusting”
“I hate my body”
“I am so clumsy”
“I’m not very athletic”
What you speak will come to fruition. Speak life over yourself, workouts, nutrition, EVERYTHING! You will naturally move in the direction of what you speak. One of my biggest joys is to see women replace their negative self talk with positive truth and watch their body react accordingly. Speaking life get’s the job done!
4. Show Up Ready
Your life (workouts included) is not meant to be lived just going through the motions. CHECK IN mentally and show up with an expectation to succeed. Showing up ready means you have done the prep work before your workout. This includes getting proper rest the night before, as well as, hydrating, eating, and supplementing correctly. Show up with your focus on the task at hand. If you learn to channel your focus you will get results quicker. Show up with a taking care of business attitude not a “Let me just get this over with” attitude.
5. Listen and Follow Directions
Keep a teachable spirit. Pride says ” I know better”. Check your ego at the door and approach your training with a heart to learn. Some of my best clients are those that listen intently to instructions and then execute. If you’re having a hard time listening and following directions, I would encourage you to review numbers 1-4. Most of the time we can’t listen because we are still doing all the self sabotaging stuff. Have you ever had a conversation with someone that doesn’t listen but instead is only waiting for their turn to talk? Infuriating isn’t it? You’re trying to help them, but they can’t slow down enough to pay attention.
Learning to listen with your full attention will allow you to execute faster, and produce results quicker.
Now that we have all that taken care of, let’s get after it! Go time!
You can do this,
Lindsey
