Warning: Before you read this understand this is not a fairytales and rainbows post. It’s not negative or harsh either. It’s just the way things are. I wouldn’t write it to you if I didn’t care enough about your well being to let you know. If you’re cool with that then read on knowing that I honestly care and desire for you to live life to the fullest. This is what it will really take to change your life….
Change. You either embrace it or run from it. Accept it or rebel against it. Like it or hate it, we all want it and need it desperately in certain seasons of our lives, even though we can’t always see WHY we need it. That’s why we are human and God is God. I would venture to say we are always changing regardless of how we feel about it. How you feel about it is irrelevant. It’s happening anyways. You might as well be involved and proactive in the process instead of fighting it and making the process harder.
The fact is, you’re either getting worse or getting better. There is no staying the same.
Safety is an illusion and maintenance is mediocre. I know it doesn’t sound fun but it’s the truth and the truth isn’t always fun. You should never fear change. You should fear living an unlived life and not taking hold of the risks and promises God has for you on the other side of the change process.
Ok, now let what I just said sink in a little bit…..
Just breathe.
No one said it was going to be easy.
If you understand what I just said then you are coming to the realization that there is no “arrival moment”. There is no time in your life where you think, “I made it” and “I can just sit back”, coasting through life. That’s chasing a fantasy. I see people do it everyday as the driving factor of there existence. It’s the notion that “someday” things will be easy and they won’t have to work, push through, or change anything if they can just get to that point. So when they don’t get to that point fast enough they quit. What they don’t understand is that there is no that point. Life is battle and we are always warring for our destinies. Change takes months, years even. There is no easy street for those that really want to change their lives. That’s the secret.
Always wanting easy will ruin your life. Simple? YES. Easy? NO.
For many will enter the wide path but only a few will choose to walk the narrow. If you haven’t noticed, there are many walking the wide path because the world is all about being easy. It’s a culture we’re continually fed and buy into. It’s what’s marketed on every commercial, magazine stand, and grocery store aisle. If something is too hard or requires too much time and energy then we run, whine, or complain. This is not the mindset of someone who really wants to change their life.
If you really want change you will do whatever it takes for HOW EVER LONG IT TAKES no matter how you feel about it. It’s called PERSEVERANCE.
And if you really want change you must adopt and anoint yourself with a spirit of relentless perseverance.
The Bible commands us to persevere over and over again. It’s marked throughout scripture and if you really want change in your health, relationships, finances, etc, YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THIS.
I’ve listed my go to verses on the subject of perseverance although these are just a handful. I have purposefully not written the verses out because I want you to go look them up for yourself. Developing that discipline is a part of true change. It’s what you live by and eat, breathe, and sleep by. You must understand this biblical principle. It’s life or death.
James 1:4
James 1:12
2 Peter 1:5-9
Proverbs 24:15
Proverbs 24:16
Psalm 18:29
Hebrews 6:11
Hebrews 10:36-39
Hebrews 12:13
As a child of God your life is ALL about change; changing your life and bringing the source of change to the world. Your identity is wrapped up in being and overcomer and relentlessly persevering no matter what. It’s non negotiable for a successful kingdom life.
Now one last thing if you are starting to feel a little weighed down and depressed at the fact that there is always a battle and always a mountain to scale. Remember, there is JOY in the process of all of this. Wherever God is taking you trust that he is there with you. Where he is, there is always peace and joy if you will look and listen. There is joy and great triumph in doing the hard things in order to be made new again. You fight from victory not towards it. You are a champion!
Delight in the process. Take joy in the discovery. Arise…the mountain is waiting…
