Can we have a heart to heart for a minute? I’ve noticed some things and I want to help you shift your perspective. I have a few questions to ask. But don’t worry, I promise I’m asking in love.So imagine I’m at your kitchen counter with you and we are having a pumpkin spice latte together. Let’s dig together for a minute. Ready? Here we go.
Why is it that we stop and we start? We get on track for 2 weeks and then have 2 months of unhealthy choices. We buy the newest diet books, subscribe to yet another fitness blog looking for inspiration, or buy that new piece of workout equipment on an infomercial promising instant results. Or, we pay for ANOTHER gym membership, join that class, hire that trainer for 12 weeks, and then it’s back to the same old same old. Why are we striving? Why are we stopping and starting and running around like a chicken with its head cut off, bouncing from one thing to the next with no purpose, priority, or vision? And this doesn’t just apply to our fitness and nutrition.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard women say things like this in regards to their fitness efforts,
“I really need to do something.”
“I’ve got to get back on track; I was doing so good for a while but ________.”
“Look at you. It’s so inspiring. I really need to get a plan together.”
“Do you train people? How much does it cost? I’ve been really thinkin about doing SOMETHIN.”
Then comes my questions, “Oh really? How come? Why do you want to do this?” Nine out of ten times you would think they were staring a hole through my head.
I propose to you today, that the answer to all this is a glaring lack of purpose and revelation. Do you know what’s really driving you and WHY you want what you want? Furthermore, what’s the WHY behind your WHY? Is it shallow?
“Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.” Proverbs 29:18
Trust me, if this is not clearly defined and written down, then you are setting yourself up for failure and inconsistency. If you don’t have a revelation then you will cast off restraint when tested. I know that it can be difficult to dig deep down to the root of an issue. Because when we do lots of ugly emotions can come up with it. I give you permission today to grab your Kleenex and have an ugly cry if you need to. Hash that thing out with God. Grab your journal and start writing. Seek your revelation. Seek wisdom.
So when it comes to getting truly fit, what’s your why? Why do you want to transform physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually? Write YOUR answer down. Not what you think you are supposed to write or what sounds good. Genuinely open up and share your heart. Now, look at the answer you wrote down and ask yourself, WHY is THAT even important? When you have the why behind your why unpacked, excuses and folly don’t have permission to exist. Your why must exist in the depths of your heart and mind. You must guard it and refer back to it. Because if you don’t really know why you started then you won’t have a real reason NOT to quit.
I’m rooting for you. Keep digging.
